The Saplings Room provides a warm, safe and nurturing environment for children that begin the year between the ages of 12 months and 23 months. The three full time teachers respect each child’s individual needs and therefore follow a flexible schedule that caters to each child. As the children grow through the year, the classroom grows with them. The room creates a warm stimulating environment where children feel secure exploring their surroundings. Teachers recognize that young toddlers learn through doing and provide interactions and experiences that encourage comfort and independence. The children go outside daily either using buggies for walks or exploring in our Natural Outdoor Classroom.

Sapling Room Goals:

• Instill in each child a feeling of autonomy and positive self-concept

• Provide a joyous, enthusiastic and spontaneous environment

• Use a variety of activities that encourage language and social interactions

• Support and encourage a child as they experiment with a variety of art materials,music, movement and dramatic play opportunities, and manipulative activities

• Develop self-help skills in order to create independence and confidence in each child

• Foster a love and enjoyment of literature through books and stories told and read by teachers and by maintaining a print-rich environment
